Drive from Würzburg through the “Ochsenfurter” Gau to the Tauber Valley. Three wine-growing regions meet here on the Romantic Road: Franconia, Baden and Württemberg. As a welcome, a glass of Secco sets the mood for the wine trip. Passing sugar beet fields, untouched nature and vineyards, you reach Weikersheim with its castle of the same name. Here is an opportunity to visit the Knights' Hall and the Baroque Garden, which was designed in the style of Versailles. Röttingen's landmark is the Baroque town hall, in front of which a European flag is hoisted; after all, Röttingen is Germany's first European city. To round off, a glass of dry white wine (Müller Thurgau) is served before the Rothenburg ob der Tauber silhouette is enthroned high above the Tauber Valley. Free time in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a visit to Käthe Wohlfarth's Christmas shop should not be missed. In addition to the “bell”, Plönlein is home to the wine tavern and sale of winemaker Thülauf, who cultivates the vineyards around the city wall of Rothenburg. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the southernmost wine-growing town on the Romantic Road, serving dry red wine on the way back to Würzburg. In Würzburg, get off either at the residence or at the main train station.
