2-Hour Third Reich Walking Tour

About

During the period of National Socialism, Berlin's cityscape changed tremendously. This was made clear not only by the air raids, bombings and the final battle for Berlin, but also in the course of Berlin's conversion measures to become the imperial capital of Germania.

Come with us on an interesting and informative city tour through the period from the seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 to the final battle for Berlin in 1945. We will take you to the sites of this historic history, to the remaining and disappeared buildings and centers of terror during the Nazi era in Berlin.

At the Reichstag, we will show you the traces of the battle for the imperial capital of Berlin and why it is a miracle that this building is still standing at all, the last object to be conquered by the Red Army. It goes through the Tiergarten to the Soviet War Memorial, where there is a military cemetery dedicated to the Soviet soldiers who died in the battle for Berlin. We pass by Soviet-Russian T-34 tanks and cannons, which were involved in the battle for Berlin, across the 17th of June road, the last runway of German aircraft to the Brandenburg Gate. Take the former Herrmann-Göring-Straße today Ebertstraße to the Holocaust Memorial, the memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe.

Nearby was the Führerbunker, where Adolf Hitler committed suicide with his wife Eva Hitler, and from there it's off to Wilhelmstraße, the government district until 1945, to the Georg Elser memorial plaque. Here we discuss the history of the German resistance and the many failed attacks on the “Führer.”

There were many ministries on Wilhelmstraße, such as: the Ministry of Propaganda of Josef Göbbels, the new Reich Chancellery, the Reich Ministry of Finance, the Reich Ministry of Aviation and other ministries.

The end point of the tour is the Topography of Terror in Wilhelmstraße, near Checkpoint Charlie. The Topography of Terror is a project in Berlin to document and deal with terror during the National Socialist era. From 1933-1945, the most important centers of National Socialist terror were located on the site: the secret State Police Office with its own “domestic prison,” the Reichsführung-SS, the Security Service SD and the Reich Main Security Office.
