At the Tränenpalast at Friedrichstraße train station, we board the “Buchanka”. During the division of Berlin, many tears flowed here as families separated by the Berlin Wall said their goodbyes here
.The next stop on the city tour is the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße, the only place where you can experience the former inner-city border strip in its entire dimension.
We are now heading for Ernst Thälmann Park in Prenzlauer Berg, with its skyscrapers and the huge Ernst Thälmann Monument. The city tour continues to two other prestigious urban development projects in the GDR: the former Lenin Square and Karl-Marx-Allee, which knows how to impress with architecture between Soviet confectionary style and socialist modernism. .The teacher's house with the huge socialist mosaic forms the transition to Alexanderplatz, which was built as the modern center of East Berlin.
Finally, the city tour goes back to Friedrichstraße station.
