Private city tour to the Potsdam Conference 1945 — tour in a Soviet minibus

In the summer of 1945, Potsdam became the center of world public opinion. The most powerful heads of state in the world of that time came to the city to hold the “Potsdam Conference.” The nuclear age began virtually at the same time — also here in Potsdam

.

The vehicle:

The minibus, called “Buchanka” (“box bread”) because of its charming shape, is a modern Soviet “old-timer”. Up to 8 guests (+ driver) can enjoy a unique and authentic experience. And there are a few surprises waiting on board!

The tour:

The starting point is the Griebnitzsee S-Bahn station, which was in a restricted area for many decades and was a border station during GDR times.

The “Buchanka” then takes you along the Griebnitzsee, on the banks of which there are magnificent villas. These served the conference delegations not only as residences, but also for extensive celebrations to mark the end of the war

in Europe.

At the US President's Truman Villa, we learn what the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 have to do with the Potsdam Conference. Two memorial stones from the two tragic places commemorate this today

.

Through the British zone with the Churchill Villa, it is then on to the former residence of the Soviet head of state Josef Stalin. With the “Buchanka”, we travel the same route that the motorcades of the heads of state once took.

We drive over the later GDR exclave of Klein Glienicke and the world-famous spy bridge to the UNESCO World Heritage Site New Garden.

At Cecilienhof Palace, we finally visit the exhibition on the Potsdam Conference and the historic Potsdam Agreement. (Please note: the museum is closed on Mondays. In addition, the museum rooms must be visited alone with an audio guide, as no guided tours are permitted

).

It is then back to Griebnitzsee S-Bahn station.
