Frankfurt bike tour: City tour by bike to Skyline, Goethe, New Old Town and cider

Both committed Frankfurt enthusiasts and first-time visitors make the right choice with this bike tour. This is ensured by the perfect mix of famous sights (Römer, European Central Bank, Goethe House, etc.) and secret tips! Selected and qualified tour guides will show you the most beautiful sides of Frankfurt on one of our daily tours. At the end of the tour, your tour guide will show you traditional Frankfurt cider bars!

Your bike tour starts in the middle of Sachsenhausen, one of the city's most popular districts. Many old buildings from the Wilhelminian period shape the face of the district with its high density of trendy bars, cozy cafés and a wide selection of restaurants as well as traditional cider bars. It serves home-style food in a rustic setting. The “Stöffsche” is absolutely one of them. Even in the 19th century, Sachsenhausen was dominated by orchards. This is where the “Äppelwoi” was invented, which has been regarded as the epitome of the Hessian way of life not just since the show “Zum blauen Bock”

.

You cycle relaxed through small roads then through the Malerviertel to the southern banks of the Main with the famous museum embankment. This includes the Städelsches Kunstinstitut with its renowned extension and renowned temporary exhibitions, the Liebieghaus and the Museum of Applied Arts. The Holbeinsteg takes you to the other side of the Main and cycle into Frankfurt's old town. On the Römer, you look across the old royal route to Frankfurt's “cathedral” (which is not one at all) and experience the recently completed New Old Town, a successful mix of reconstructions and new buildings. It is only a few meters to the cradle of German democracy with St. Paul's Church. You will then cycle through the Großer Hirschgraben to the home of the Goethe family. This is where the famous poet was born and spent his teenage years. He impressively described this period in his autobiography Poetry and Truth

.

On the former medieval defensive line of the city, the green alleenring was built in the 20th century. On traffic-free paths, you will cycle through the heart of the city to the New and Old Opera House and experience the impressive silhouette of the city with its high-rise towers directly. A detour takes you to the Old Stock Exchange with the popular photo of bull and bear. Back on the Alleenring, you cycle to the east of the city and finally reach the Main again. The city's new landmark is right in front of you. The new tower of the European Central Bank is an impressive counterpoint to the ensemble of high-rise buildings on the west side. At the foot of the listed former Grossmarkthalle, which is now part of the ECB building, is one of the most popular bars in the city right on the water. The Oosten has a great terrace with views of the city. Over the new bridge, which is much praised for its elegant swing, you cycle from Osthafen back to the southern bank of the Main and make a detour to the Gerbermühle. It used to be the converted summer retreat of the Willemer banking family. Goethe lived here in 1814/15 and was inspired by the daughter of the house in some of his works. Today, the Gerbermühle is a popular tourist restaurant. From there, it is only a few meters by bike to Sachsenhausen and back to the starting point. The bike tour ends there
